Assam: 1 Arrested and a Large Number of Narcotic Tablets Seized from Dhubri

In yet another success story in the fight against drugs, Assam Police seized narcotic tablets from Dhubri.

GUWAHATI: Police personnel in Assam's Dhubri District on Saturday confiscated a sizable shipment of narcotic tablets. They have also detained one person in this regard according to reports

The culprit was caught as a result of an ongoing operation near B N College. Police had carried out the search after receiving specific information, according to officials.

Abdul Karim Bepari, a native of Tamarhat in Assam's Dhubri district, was named as the arrested person. Officials stated that he has been charged with smuggling and is currently being questioned to get further information.

In another recent incident, Dhubri police, following a tip-off, stormed a restaurant close to Hari Sabha in Dhubri town and detained one person who was later identified as Baseruddin Khan. From his possession, police seized a.22 pistol, two magazines, 550 R7 tablets, five suspected heroin packages, a Vivo mobile phone, and a Pulsar 150 motorcycle. According to police sources, Khan is believed to be a narcotics and guns dealer and is from the Majerchar Part I village in the Dhubri Police Station of the Dhubri area. Police and intelligence officials are questioning Khan to find out his true motivation for owning weapons and ammo.

The Assam government is continuing its fight against drugs in order to make Assam a drug-free state. Since May 2021, Assam has had 6,800 arrests and drug seizures totalling Rs 900 crore, according to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who spoke at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

In a joint operation with the CRPF on August 2, the Assam Police confiscated a sizable amount of illegal drugs worth Rs 15 crore in the Karbi Anglong district, while on July 15 they apprehended a drug dealer in Karimganj and seized illegal drugs worth Rs 3 crore.
