Assam: 101kg Marijuana Seized In Guwahati, Two Nabbed

The officer revealed that the truck was approaching from Tripura and heading towards North India.

GUWAHATI: In a major haul, Guwahati city police seized 101 kg of marijuana from the outskirts of the city in Jorabat area. The seizure has been made from inside a truck on 20th January, Saturday. The police nabbed two people regarding the case. 

Based on a prior information, a special team was formed headed by Joint Commissioner of police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta. The team intercepted the drug carrying vehicle bearing a Himachal Pradesh registration number. 

The officer revealed that the truck was approaching from Tripura and heading towards North India. The seized marijuana was approximately worth Rs 1 crore as per the international market value, he added.

The accused had cunningly packed all illicit items at the roof of the vehicle. The cops had to break the roof to recover the drugs. The entire state is currently working on eradicating drug smuggling cases in the region.

Recently, on Thursday, Guwahati police delayed nabbed on smuggler and seized 320 kg of cannabis from a truck. The arrested person is a resident of Tripura and has been identified as Thongiya Mog. According to the reports, the seizure has been made 19th January night from a truck.

A special team of Guwahati police headed by Joint Commissioner of police, Partha Mahanta initiated the operation. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma appreciated the effort, through his Twitter. Sarma mentioned in his tweet that, the truck had secret packed the contrabands in a hidden chamber inside the vehicle.

The cannabis were supposed to be delivered in Assam. 'Excellent Work @assampolice. Keep it up' , tweeted the CM. Furthermore, Guwahati police on 14th of January, seized a huge quantity of heroine from a lodge in Dispur area. 22 packets of heroine was recovered during the process and the search was initiated in Barak Lodge, based on a prior information.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta along with ADCP Kalyan Pathak, raided the hotel. The seized items worth Rs 2.4 crore according to the international market.
