On Sunday, a centenarian from Guwahati, Assam was discharged from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after successfully defeating COVID-19 infection.
Samed Ali, a 105-year-old senior citizen is a native of Dhubri. He was discharged from the super speciality COVID-19 ward of Guwahati Medical College yesterday after triumphing over the deadly infectious disease.
The GMCH tweeted about the extraordinary incident of the centenarian emerging from the demonic grip of the deadly viral disease, which is usually fatal for older persons.
According to a medical professional at the GMCH, 105-year-old Samed Ali had been hospitalised since the beginning of this month and has ultimately defeated the COVID-19 infection.
The GMCH Superintendent and other doctors involved in Ali's treatment were not available by phone to provide more information on the patient.
"105 yrs old Samed Ali, hailing from Dhubri, defeated COVID and is discharged from Superspeciality Covid Hospital, GMCH today," the tweet read.
During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in September 2020, a 100-year-old Mai Handique, a resident of Mothers Old Age Home in Hatigaon, Guwahati, was discharged from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Covid-19 hospital on Wednesday after recovering from the new coronavirus infection.
Several examples of senior people successfully recovering from COVID-19 infection have been reported in various Indian states. Here are a few examples from the last several months, while India was dealing with the second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.
Despite being in the susceptible age category, a 103-year-old man from Palghar in Maharashtra recovered from COVID-19 last month. On April 28, a 105-year-old man and his 95-year-old wife were discharged from Covid-19 in Latur, Maharashtra. The elderly couple were both admitted to the Vilasroa Deshmukh Institute of Medical Science in Latur for ten days. The two patients were experiencing respiratory difficulties and were placed on oxygen assistance.
Meanwhile, as of Sunday, 20 June 2021, Assam registered 1,775 new cases of the deadly viral infection taking the overall caseload in the country to 4,82,505. The active cases in the state now stand at 32,207. Assam reported 30 cases of COVID-19 induced fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally of death count in the state to 4,208. Yesterday's recovery rate stood at 92.17 percent while the positivity rate stood at 2.27 percent.
