BOKO: Villagers from Rajapara, Dhupguri, Sukuniapara, Bondapara celebrated the 12th Annual Foundation Day of the Hanuman Temple on Thursday. The Hanuman Temple was established by renowned social worker Shanti Lal Jain and it is situated along National highway 17. Thousands of villagers and other dignitaries visited the temple on the annual foundation day. On the occasion of the foundation day, a day-long programme was organized by the temple committee in the temple premises.
The worship of the Hanumanji started in the morning. A cultural rally from Dhupdhara (Goalpara District) to the Hanuman Temple premises, covering around 7 kilometers through NH 17 was taken out. Former Chief Ministers Late Tarun Gogoi, Sarbananda Sonowal also visited the temple during their terms. Actors, social workers, foreigners and many other distinguished persons visited the temple. After the cultural rally, a meeting was held in the temple premises, which was presided over by Atul Thakuria, president of the temple committee.
According to Thakuria, the area where the temple is located was once very forested, which is why the locals were afraid to cross it. But after the establishment of the temple people can now cross the area without hesitation during both day and night hours. Dr. Dhirendra Mohan Kumar, former vice-president of the Handique Girls’ College took part as specific speaker in the meeting. During the meeting, the mouthpiece of the temple ‘Maruti Nandan’ was unveiled by Khirod Khakhlary. Former principal of the Dudhnoi College and the temple committee honoured the principal of the Boko College of Music Narendra Chandra Kalita. In the evening, many cultural programmes were organized by the committee. The founder of the Hanuman Temple, Shanti Lal Jain said that the number of visitors is increasing day by day.
