Assam: 19 Law Students to Receive Former CJI's Special Scholarship

19 students from different law colleges of Assam to receive Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi’s special scholarship from the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Rashmin in a ceremony in Guwahati on November 6.

GUWAHATI: In what has come as a major boost for uplifting the morale of meritorious but deprived law students, the special scholarship instituted by Former Chief Justice of India and Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi will be given away here for the students from Assam on Sunday.

Notably, the former CJI has announced earlier that he will be donating his entire salary and allowances as a Rajya Sabha member to sponsor education of law students in the country. Gogoi after retiring from his position of 46th Chief Justice of India in November 2019, was nominated to the Upper House of Parliament in 2020 as a member of eminence by Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind. Since then he has never taken away any salary.

So far as the special scholarship is concerned, any student in the country pursuing a five-year degree course in law is eligible to apply. In their application form apart from the basic information, the aspiring students are also required to furnish their academic scores in the programme as well as family income proof certificates.

As many as 19 law students from Assam and 10 others pursuing their studies in different law universities of the country have been selected for this scholarship.

For the 19 students studying in Law Colleges of Assam, a ceremony will be held at the Seminar Hall of National Law University premises in Guwahati on Sunday where Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Rashmin Manoharbhai Chhaya will be giving away the cheques.

It is believed that CJI Gogoi's scholarship will help needy students who want to pursue a career in law to go further in their pursuit. As per information, the fund can be used in reimbursing their tuition fees, accommodation dues for the whole tenure of the academic programme.
