Assam: 20-Year-Old Gangraped by 4 Youths In Graveyard, One Arrested

Police said that one of the accused in the case had been apprehended, while the search was on to find the remaining culprits.

GUWAHATI: In yet another case, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four youths, suspected to be minors, in Assam's Morigaon district.

According to the victim, four youths abducted the woman and took her to a graveyard at night where they gang-raped her.

A complaint has been registered in this matter at the Morigaon police station. Notably, it locals alleged that the victim initially did not file a lawsuit, but when her husband did not accept her, she filed a complaint with Morigaon Sadar Police Station.

Police said that one of the accused in the case had been apprehended, while the search was on to find the remaining accused.

The arrested youth is only 16 years old, officials informed, adding that the other three have fled.

The police registered a case in Morigaon PS 270/22 and arrested the juvenile under sections 365 and 376D of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and was later sent to Juvenile jail in Jorhat.

In a similar incident, Assam Police arrested two youths for allegedly raping a minor girl in Assam's Hailakandi district on July 22.

The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Hussain and Salim Uddin. As per reports, the incident took place at Kanchiala village under Ramnathpur police station on July 15.

''Two youths had rapped a minor girl in the forest area of Kanchiala village,'' media reports quoted Gaurav Upadhyay, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hailakandi district.

''In a bid to arrest him we conducted several raids and eventually on Wednesday night (July 20), we nabbed both the accused who hailed from the victim's village,'' he added.

Following the incident, further investigation was going on into the matter then.
