Assam: 23 Japanese Encephalitis and 16 dengue cases detected in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and dengue cases are rising in the Golaghat district. As many as 23 JE cases, 16 dengue cases and 1 malaria case have detected in Golaghat district.

Out of 23 JE cases, 11 are male and 12 are female. The 16 dengue cases are from Karbi Anglong, Nagaland, Bengaluru and Chennai. There are 9 males and 7 females infected with dengue. This was revealed by the Joint Director of Health Services, Golaghat, in meeting held at the office premises with media persons on Wednesday.

The health department is already conducting awareness meetings in villages and tea garden areas about vector-borne diseases. House-to-house search for fever patients, medication of pillows, destruction of mosquito breeding sources, larvicide spraying in sewers and release of larvivorous fish (guppies) have been carried out.

The health department is also conducting fogging in the areas where the cases have been identified. There are no deaths from Japanese Encephalitis, dengue and malaria in Golaghat district so far. In the meeting, Dr Anuradha Barua, Chief Medical and Health Officer (Vector- borne diseases), Dr Ranjit Bhuyan, Sub-Divisional Medical and Health Officer (School Health), and others were present.
