While speaking on the topic Power verus Truth: Role of Intellectual in this Age, Dr. Udayan Mishra, a former professor at Dibrugarh University, said, "Thinking individual is important because he is regarded as a public intellectual, and in modern times, such people are important for shaping a good democracy. But now it has been seen that the role of intellectuals is shrinking due to many factors, viz., globalisation, commercialization, and commodification. The world democratic system has been shrinking due to various reasons and the autonomy of individual reason".

"Debate, dissent, and dialogue are the prime examples of a healthy democracy. But now, we could not see debate, dissent, or dialogue. But from time to time, the intellectuals have betrayed the masses due to their own selfishness," Mishra added.

He further added, "The highest quality of intellectuals is humanity. The intellectual should possess this quality, which will solve the problems arising in society. Public intellectuals are the persons who shaped society".

Abhimanyu Baruah, Jyoti Prasad Phukan, and many other teachers of the college were present during the programme.
