Assam: 3 Including Ex-NLFB Militant Killed In Encounter After Gunfight With Police

Two suspected dacoits were killed in a gunfight while transporting areca nuts in Assam’s Goalpara and an ex-NLFB militant identified as Sanjula Warry was killed in a police encounter in Kokrajhar.

GUWAHATI: In a recent case of a police encounter in Assam, three persons suspected of dacoits were killed in two different incidents of a gunfight with police.

The first incident took place during the night hours on Friday 1st April in the Agia area located in the Goalpara district of Assam.

On Friday at around 08:30 pm, a team of police while acting on a tip-off intercepted a vehicle transporting areca nuts in Goalpara's Agia location.

According to police officials, the police asked the people inside the vehicle to step out but they refused following which the police had to fire at the tyres of that vehicle.

After the police fired on tyres the suspected dacoits also started firing back resulting in a gunfight with the police team.

An official informed that as the dacoits opened fire, three people sustained injuries while two of them died on the way to the Goalpara Civil Hospital.

The deceased persons have been identified as Sushen Ali and Shahjehan Ali, both residents of Goalpara, Assam.

The second incident took place in the Kokrajahr district of Assam where an ex-NLFB (National Liberation Front of Bodoland) militant died after a gunfight with police.

On Thursday 31st March, the police officials arrested the ex- NLFB activists from the Chirang district of Assam as per the police statement.

According to reports, the former NLFB identified as Sanjula Warry was the head of a gang of 10 to 15 dacoits and police arrested him following certain leads.

Police took him to the Ultapani reserve forest area in Assam's Kokrajhar to recover valuable gold ornaments and cash money that are kept hidden there.

Police said that after reaching the spot, the ex-militant Warry picked up a pistol from the place where the booty was kept and started firing on trying to escape.

He started running which led the police to open fire so that they could capture him. The accused sustained injuries and was taken to the Kokrajhar Civil Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

However, police recovered cash money of Rupees 1 lakh along with a 7.65 revolver and gold ornaments from the Ultapani reserve forest area.
