GUWAHATI: A total of 306 children across 33 districts in Assam fulfilled all the criteria and bagged the healthy child award, said a notification of Ministry Women and Child Development Assam on Monday.

The Award is divided into three categories, the state level, Lok Sabha constituency level, and the general level. The awards for the state level were given away to 10 children by the Chief Minister of Assam on September 1st at a function organized for Poshan Maah.

Another 20 children are selected from the Anganwadi centers to receive the award at the Lok Sabha constituency level.

Malnutrition in children under 5 years of age has been a very big problem for India which affects the children's height and weight. In order to win over this menace, Mid-day meal scheme was introduced as a measure in Kerala way back in 1984 and since then it has proved beneficial in bringing down the rate of malnutrition in children under 5 years in India.

As per fresh data, India through the mid-day meal scheme feeds 120 million little mouths a day in over 1.2 million schools spread across the country. This scheme is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Assam also shares the dream of a Malnutrition free India.

In order to augment this dream and to make it more competitive Assam introduced the Healthy Child Award so that every child in Assam is well fed which would aid in their growth and also for a healthier future. This award is like an investment for our future because our future lies with our children.

The concerned supervisors/block POSHAN team guided the AWW/AWH in the entire process of identifying the children who fulfills all the parameters set by WHO for a healthy child like height, weight, etc.

The identified healthy children were then listed along with their details in the prescribed format.
