Assam: 35th District Day celebration concludes in Morigaon

MORIGAON: The two-day celebration of the 35th District Day concluded on Monday and commenced on October 14. The two-day celebration kicked off with the great participation of women like Sakhi, ASHA, AWW, and AWH. Emphasising 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao', the district administration chose it as the main theme for celebrating District Day. A rally attended by more than 5,000 women, such as ASHA, Sakhi, AWW, and AWH, was taken out with slogans on the theme across Morigaon town on October 14. Over 12 stalls of four government departments, with a huge women's strength-Health, Social Welfare, National Urban Livelihoods Mission Society (NULM), ASRLM, and SSA-were installed at Morigaon School Field in order to provide a podium for women who wish to become self-reliant through their hand-made products.

More than 1000 SHG members participated in the rally, and five area-level federations gave food stalls on the occasion under the NULM, Morigaon Municipal Board. Under the SSA, TLM (teaching learning materials) for FLN (foundational, literacy, and numeracy) on Ka-Shreni, along with classes one and two, are installed here. Moreover, a few food stalls were installed under ASRLM (Laharighat, Bhurbandha, and Mayong blocks). On the same day, a felicitation programme was conducted where National Award-winning actress Malaya Goswami, Green Oscar winner Dr. Purnima Devi Barman, a prominent environmentalist, Assam Civil Service Officer Dharitri Kakati Amphi (Morigaon), radio jockey Pranamika Bhuyan, self-employed women Deepika Saikia (Morigaon), chief functionary Wahidah Rahman of Morigaon Mohila Mehfil, and 8-year-old Jahnavi Goswami (Morigaon) who achieved medals at the national level yoga competition 2023 were felicitated by the Morigaon district administration.

On October 15, a drawing competition was held at Morigaon Girls' Higher Secondary School. Thereafter, a kayaking and canoeing competition was officially inaugurated by Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri at the historic Charon Beel, which was attended by District Commissioner Devashis Sarma.
