Assam: 4 Held Including CPRF Jawan With Suspected Heroin In Nagaon

GUWAHATI: On March 19, Assam police detained one member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and four other people in connection with the discovery of suspected heroin in the Nagaon district.

Subrata Bhatta, a member of the 34 BNC RPF camp, has been identified as the arrested CRPF jawan.

Sahidul Rahman, Safikul Rahman, Phurkhan Ali, and Fakruddin are the four extra people that were taken into custody alongside Bhatta in the interim.

In addition, the authorities seized one vehicle and five mobile phones from their possession.

According to a police officer, Assam Police detained a massive shipment of heroin worth Rs 20 crore on March 12 in the state's Karbi Anglong area.

The police detained a person in connection with the seizure, according to the official. In response to a specific tip, the police in the Khatkhati area set up a roadblock and stopped a car coming from Dimapur.

After inspecting the car, the police discovered 390 soap boxes hidden inside, each holding more than five kilograms of heroin.

The consignment was loaded in Dimapur and was scheduled to be delivered in the Nagaon bypass, informed John Das. Later, the driver of the vehicle was detained in connection with this. The medications were thought to have a market worth more than Rs 20 crore on the foreign market, according to Das.

The BJP-led administration, according to Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, has conducted a "full-scale fight" against the drug epidemic.

She stated that as of March 2, 2023, 5,191 cases had been filed under the NDPS Act, and 8,632 drug traffickers had been taken into custody.

Neog claimed that during the current administration, traffickers' possession of 221 kg of heroin, 67,864 kg of ganja, and 3,317 kg of poppy straw was recovered.
