Assam: 40 Cattle Heads Rescued From Jamugurihat

The police have also initiated an investigation regarding the incident.

TEZPUR: The Assam Police have been able to prevent a case of illegal cattle smuggling in the state as they were able to rescue around 40 cattle heads on Friday night.

The Jamugurihat Police were able to apprehend a 12-wheeler truck which was transporting the animals illegally at night. The incident took place as the Jamugurihat Police carried out a checking program following the specific inputs from their sources regarding the transport of the animals. The checking was carried out on National Highway 15 on Friday.

The truck bearing registration number AS 01 GC 1232 was also seized by the police team for the illegal transport of the animals. However, the driver as well as his helper were able to escape before the police could catch them.

The recovered animals were moved to the Gou-shala located in Chariduwar at night. The police have also initiated an investigation regarding the incident.

The rescue of cattle from time to time in different parts of the state is proof of the rampant cattle smuggling in the region. Although law enforcement agencies are working hard to stop these incidents, the miscreants try to find new ways to transport these animals every day.

Another similar incident happened a few days back in Guwahati city. During a search operation launched by the Assam Police, 44 illegally transported cattle were recovered from Jorabat during the early hours of Tuesday. According to sources, the police intercepted two trucks loaded with cattle on NH-37. Two persons identified as Abul Kalam and Abdul Hamid were arrested. Sources have revealed that the cattle were smuggled from Mangaldai and Baihata. The vehicles and cattle were seized by the authorities.

Assam Police had foiled a cattle smuggling operation in the Borpathar area of Goalpara district and apprehended three persons in this connection, police said on Sunday. The apprehended persons were identified as Jarif Ali, Sabir Uddin Sheikh, and Ainar Mandal. According to the police, the operation to nab the smugglers was launched late Saturday night based on a secret input. During the operation, the police recovered 32 cattle.
