Assam: 5, Including a Woman Arrested With Narcotics in Dhola

The police team also managed to seize a substantial amount of drugs from eight container boxes along with five mobile phones

TINSUKIA: Five people including a woman were apprehended by a team from Assam Police and contraband narcotics were recovered from their possession. The incident took place in the Dhola region of Tinsukia district on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Dhola police station under the Sadiya Police district intercepted a Hyundai i10 bearing registration AS 03 M 6200 at the Laphangkula Chariali and arrested the woman and four other suspected narcotics peddlers. The police team also managed to seize a substantial amount of drugs from eight container boxes along with five mobile phones during the interception.

The identities of the arrested people were revealed as Priyanka Gogoi from Roing in Arunachal Pradesh and David Gogoi, Pankaj Chiring and Dipu Chiring. A case was registered regarding the incident and an investigation has been initiated into the matter by the officials from the Sadiya Police District.

Marking another success in the war against narcotics peddling and smuggling, Police teams from Lala Bazar and Abdullahpur Police stations in Assam’s Hailakandi conducted a successful joint operation that resulted in a large number of 8,000 Yaba tablets getting seized on Sunday. Sources informed that the police managed to arrest three smugglers in relation to the incident. They were identified as Akbar Hussain Laskar, Kabir Uddin Laskar and Anwar Hussain Laskar.

It is significant to mention that Anwar Hussain Laskar is a panchayat representative. The seized methamphetamine or Yaba tablets have an estimated street value of around Rs 40 lakh, an indication of the huge magnitude of the illicit drug trade being conducted in the region. The police responded swiftly to an intelligence input and swung into action, apprehending the culprits involved and launching an investigation into their involvement in drug trafficking across the international border and through different states in the NE region.
