Assam: 575th Abirbhab Mahotsav of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev Observed

A ‘Bhagwad Yatra’ was carried out by the participants on the morning of Friday and more than a hundred people took part in the march.

TAMULPUR: The 575th Abirbhab Mahotsav of the great saint Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev was observed in Tamulpur with great pomp on Friday.

The 575th Abhirbhab Mahotsav of Srimanta Sankardev was celebrated on Friday in different parts of the state. In Tamulpur too, a major celebration took place in the Kalakuchi locality of the district.

The event is being organised under the aegis of the Srimanta Sankardev Janmotsav Celebration Committee. The four-day-long celebration is being carried out at the Bornamghar premises of the Kalakuchi locality with a vivid program. A ‘Bhagwad Yatra’ was carried out by the participants on the morning of Friday. More than a hundred people of the locality took part in the march and the local people have mentioned that the number of participants is expected to increase in the coming days.

Previously, the Sankar Janmotsav convened by the Tezpur district committee of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, in association with Jamuguri regional committee, was held with a two-day programme on October 8 and October 9 at Jamugurihat. The first day’s programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag by Khira Hazarika, president in-charge of the district committee, followed by plantation drive inaugurated by Ghana Bora and Bipul Bora, president and secretary of Jamuguri regional committee respectively. A panel discussion was held with Khira Bora in the chair. Prabhakar Barman gave a welcome address.

Two bhaonas ‘Rukmini Haran’ and ‘Dakshya Jagya’ were performed in the two-day programme. Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika graced the second day’s programme as chief guest and praised the initiative taken by Tezpur district committee and Jamuguri regional committee of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. The organizers accorded a warm felicitation to Uddipana Kalita, a member of the scientists’ team that worked round-the-clock to make Mission Chandrayaan 3 a resounding success.
