Assam: 58th Freshers’ Day of Dhing College celebrated

Diganta Biswa Sarma, a noted litterateur and Sahitya Akademi awardee, attended the open session of the 58th Freshers’ Day of Dhing College as a chief guest recently.

NAGAON: Diganta Biswa Sarma, a noted litterateur and Sahitya Akademi awardee, attended the open session of the 58th Freshers’ Day of Dhing College as a chief guest recently.

The programme was initiated with the unfurling of the college flag by Dr Biman Hazarika, the principal of the college, following which a wall magazine as well as the door of the book fair were inaugurated by Abdul Kadir and Dr Pankaj Kumar Bora respectively.

While addressing the open session, Diganta Biswa Sarma said that a student without a pen is like a soldier without arms and such a student as well as soldier had no value. He said only transformation can make a society beautiful, and hence people should change themselves to bring a transformation in the society.

The programme was chaired by Dinesh Chandra Nath, the president of college governing body of Dhing College, while Professor Muslehum Islam presented the preface of the session. Noted academician Dr Dibyajyoti Mahanta attended the programme as a special invitee. During the programme, three best graduates of the college from Arts, Science and Commerce streams were felicitated by the college authority for their achievements. The cultural programme was inaugurated by noted cine actor Nayan Nirvan Baruah.
