Assam: 6th North Lakhimpur College Book Fair to commence from October 9

LAKHIMPUR: North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), the first and foremost government autonomous college of Northeast, is going to organize a book fair this year too like the previous years. The 6th book fair of the college will commence from October 9 to October 16 with eight-day long programmes.

Coordinator, Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa informed that Asom Prakashan Parishad, Banlata, Students’ Stores, Ank-Bank, Saraighat Prakashan, Sanjiban Prakashan, Assam Publishing House Bandhab and many other publishing houses will take part in the event with their stalls. Many books published by various publication groups of other states will also be available in the book fair.

Moreover, some books, which are important and essential, but not easy to find, will be available in the book fair. It will be opened from 9:00am to 7:00pm everyday. Everyone will get 10 per cent rebate in every book he will purchase in the fair.

Symposium, Kabi Sanmilan, quiz contest and interactive session on books, lecture events, cultural programmes, book release events, screening of movie will be held during the course of the book fair. Two prominent critics from Kolkata— Basudev Das, Sheikh Moquebul Islam will take part in the literary programmes of the event. In addition to them a galaxy of writers, literary figures of the State like Dr. Anjan Kumar Oja, Dr. Pallabi Bujar Baruah, Rajib Borah, Juri Borah Borgohain, Dr. Sankar Patowary, Dhanada Devi, Jogen Taid, Lakhinandan Borgohain, Siddhartha Sankar Kalita, Koushik Kisalay will take part in the programmes of the book fair. Pona Devi Memorial Matri Award will also be conferred in the same event.

This year too, Homen Borgohain and Dr. Bhabendranath Saikia are selected as the central literary figures of the book fair in which separate stalls of the books written by the two literary icons will be available. On the other hand, three evenings of the programme will be dedicated in revered memory of noted litterateur Saurabh Kumar Chaliha, Gyanpith winner Mamoni Roysom Goswami and iconic social worker Indira Miri. Two special programmes in connection with the birth centenary of Dr. Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya and death centenary of Sir Asutosh Mukhopadhyay will be held in the event which will conclude with a cultural programme titled as ‘Aitijya’ (The Heritage) on October 16. The organizing committee has solicited the presence of the students, book lovers of the State in the book fair. Detailed information about the book fair is also available in the college website.
