GUWAHATI: According to reports emerging on Wednesday, authorities in Assam, India, conducted two separate operations that resulted in the arrest of at least seven drug peddlers. The first operation targeted the illegal trade of illicit drugs in Duliajan, located in the Dibrugarh district. During this operation, the police apprehended six individuals involved in drug trading. The arrested peddlers were identified as Sanu Magar, Bikash Sonar, Abhikesh Saikia, Pannalal Dey, Prasenjit Das, and Nikhil Gogoi. The police seized various items during the operation, including an Alto car, three motorcycles, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and cannabis.

In a separate operation conducted in Juria, situated in the Nagaon district, authorities apprehended one drug peddler named Sadikul Islam. The arrest took place in the Kadamoni Pathar area. The police confiscated approximately 14 grams of drugs and seized a mobile phone from the suspect's possession.

In another significant drug bust, the Cachar police conducted a raid on June 3 in Silchar and seized 143 soap cases containing 2.2 kg of heroin. Two individuals involved in the drug trade, Faizal Laskar and Hakimul Barbhuiya, were arrested in connection with the case. The heroin was found concealed within the soap boxes at Faizal Laskar's residence, following a tip-off received by the Cachar police. Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, praised the Cachar police for their successful operation and expressed his appreciation in a tweet, saying, “Cachar Police seized 143 soap cases containing 2.2 kg Heroin at Katagashtal, Silchar. Also apprehended two accused in the operation. Excellent work @assampolice. Keep it up,”

The actions taken by the police reflect the government's commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting public health, and curbing the spread of drugs in Assam. The arrests serve as a warning to individuals involved in drug peddling that their activities will not be tolerated, and they will be held accountable for their actions. The coordination between various law enforcement agencies and the information received through tip-offs are crucial in identifying and apprehending those responsible for drug-related offenses.

As Assam continues its fight against drug peddlers and the illegal drug trade, the government, law enforcement agencies, and community members must work together to create a safer and drug-free environment for the residents of the state.
