DHUBRI: Coinciding with Children’s Day, the 83rd birth anniversary of Dr PL Oswal was observed with children’s health check up and minor games among the school going children and seedlings of fruit bearing tree planted in Dhubri Seemanta Chetana Manch premises here on Tuesday.

Addressing mothers on the “Children Health And Role of mothers” as an appointed speaker, senior paediatricians of repute, Dr. Tapas Mazumdar spoke at a length on the various misconceptions prevailing in the minds of people which often leads to health related complexity among children from 1 to 6 years of age group.

“Following delivery, a baby should only be breastfed for six months, at which point they should transition to semi-solid home-prepared meals and continue to be breastfed for an additional three years. However, it is observed that when a baby cries a lot, parents tend to assume that the infant is not getting enough breast milk from the mother and begin giving the baby store-bought food. It shouldn't be done since it interferes with a baby's natural growth,” Dr. Mazumdar added. The fact that 15% of Indian children were obese and malnourished was extremely concerning, with the main cause being that the infant was either overfed, fed incorrectly, or underfed, Dr. Mazumdar pointed out.
