Guwahati: Around thousands of workers and leaders are expected to join Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday in the presence of the party's general secretary Abhishek Banerjee who has landed in the city.

Banerjee will inaugurate the TMC office in Guwahati apart from overseeing the party's organisational growth in the state.

According to a report by TOI, the mass exodus of leaders and workers would be from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Assam Jaitya Parishad (AJP), and Raijor Dal, as also from the BJP and Congress.

Notably, TMC is gearing up to expand its footprint in northeastern states and Banerjee visiting Guwahati is one of such steps.

Recently, the TMC appointed its new Assam unit president, Ripun Bora, who joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party last month after quitting Congress.

Meanwhile, as a part of Banerjee visit, he will also interact with the leaders of northeast state units during its organisational meetings.

The party is looking forward to strengthening its foothold in the state in the wake of the upcoming Tripura 2023 Assembly elections for which the party has claimed victory. Apart from these, TMC is also preparing for the upcoming panchayat elections in Assam.

TMC is planning to outcast the BJP from power as the party is all set to ride on former Congress leaders Sushmita Dev and Ripun Bora's reach in Assam.
