Assam: ABSU Threatens to Resume Protests Regarding VC of Bodoland University

The Governor’s Office has called the representatives of the All Bodo Students Union for a discussion on 20 October.

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has threatened to resume their protests demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor of the Bodoland University if the necessary action is not initiated. They had suspended their protests following the scheduled visit of a team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council to the Bodoland University.

Addressing the members of the press at the Bagansali Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, the leaders of the All Bodo Students Union mentioned that they had suspended their movement till 18 October as the members from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council were expected to visit Bodoland University on 16,17 and 18 October.

While speaking to the press, All Bodo Students Union Vice President Kwrwmdao Wary said that they have discussed the matter with the Bodoland Territorial Region Chief Pramod Boro along with the Principal Secretary of Bodoland Territorial Region. After these discussions, the Bodoland Territorial Region administration has written a letter to the Governor of Assam to remove the Vice-Chancellor of the Bodoland University and in response, the Governor’s Office has called them for a discussion on 20 October. They added that if this meeting does not reach an acceptable solution then the All Bodo Students Union will resume its strong democratic protest from the next day, ie 21 October onwards.

The flame of agitation of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) against the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU) Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh demanding his removal and appointment of new VC for the varsity has further engulfed as several hundred of students from four BTR districts, student organizations of different communities including Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) joined the 6 day-long protest demonstration in front of the BU on Tuesday. The ABSU has decided Raj Bhavan gherao and National Highway blockade as the next course of the agitational programme against VC Singh.
