Assam Achieved 4 Crore Vaccination Goal Amid COVID-19 Spike

Assam CM Sarma announced that the state has reached its landmark of 4 crore vaccination on Monday. Around 4,00,22,217 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce that the state has reached its aim of four crore vaccination on Monday 17 January.

The chief minister informed regarding the attainment through his social media post amid the rise in covid positive cases in Assam.

In the post shared by CM Sarma, the entire number list of vaccinated people in the state was displayed. As per the information provided a number of around 4,00,22,217 persons has received the COVID-19 vaccine.

It was also mentioned that the first dose of the vaccine has been provided to a number of 2,29,02,926 persons in the state and the tally for the second dose received by people is 1,70,62,917.

However, till now the precautionary doses have been given to 56,374 individuals.

As the state has successfully reached its target now but unfortunately the third covid wave has appeared along with the new variant of the virus, Omicron.

In order to prevent the spread of the virus and in view of Omicron's scare, the state government has shared SOPs putting restrictions in various sectors. The night curfew has been imposed from 11:00 pm at night to morning 06:00 am.

The double vaccination has been made mandatory for movements and public appearances of people in the state. The CM strictly ordered that people without vaccines will not be allowed in any public places or gatherings such as shopping malls, markets, etc.

There are limitations made in traveling of people within the state, outside the state and entering into the state.

On Monday 18 January the state government has registered an affidavit to the Supreme Court of India stating its voluntary to take the vaccination but not mandatory.

There are individuals who were found to be not willing to take vaccines by giving various justifications and this seems to be a challenge for the health officials.

However, the health officials in the state urged people to take the vaccine doses as it is likely that a tough situation may be faced by people if not done with vaccination.
