Assam: Actor Who Was Arrested For Protesting Against Price Rise In God Shiva's Attire Gets Bail

The video of their act went viral on social media and came to the notice of Hindu groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal.

Guwahati: Assam Police on Sunday nabbed a man for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a street play in which he was dressed as Lord Shiva in Nagaon.

The man identified as Birinchi Bora dressed up as Lord Shiva on Saturday and while performing a skit with a female co-actor who was dressed as Parvati to protest against price rise under the Narendra Modi Government.

The video of their act went viral on social media and came to the notice of Hindu groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal.

Following this, the Hindu groups staged a protest against the act and also filed a complaint accusing the actor of hurting religious sentiments.

Acting on the complaint, Bora was detained and taken to Nagaon Sadar Police Station.

Meanwhile, taking the cognisance of the same, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intervened and helped Bora to get bail.

"Dressing up is not a crime unless offensive material is said. Appropriate order has been issued to Nagaon Police", Assam CM tweeted.
