Assam: Additional 550 acres handed over to Airport Authority of India for Dolu airport

The State Transport Department has handed over additional 550 acres of land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the proposed greenfield airport at Dolu near Silchar.

SILCHAR: The State Transport Department has handed over additional 550 acres of land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the proposed greenfield airport at Dolu near Silchar. The process of shifting 173 families of permanent as well as contractual labourers who were staying in this area would be complete by this month, informed Monsur Ahmed Mazumder, ADC. The district administration would start the construction work of the houses from December, Mazumder further added.

The State government had already released Rs 4.50 crores for the construction of the houses. The government had already completed the acquisition of 150 acres at Haticherra area. Sources said the proposed houses for the labourers would be of 375 square feet with separate kitchen and toilets. Free electricity as well as water connections would be provided to each house. For smooth electricity supply, a power house sub station would also be constructed in the area. The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had instructed the district administration for speedy completion of the houses of the labourers and accordingly a construction committee had been formed to oversee the works being done by the Civil branch of the PWD.

A source in the Land Acquisition department said, the State government had already handed over 3050 acres of land at Dolu TE to the AAI. A technical survey, soil testing as well as the Environment Impact study by the Civil Aviation Ministry had already been done in September.
