Assam: After Maradona's stolen Watch, Police Recovers 'More Memorabilia' Including Jackets, Shoes, Toy

Guwahati: Special Director General of Police (L&O) in Assam, GP Singh on Sunday confirmed that that more items belonging to Maradona have been found.

Notably, on Saturday, Assam police recovered Diego Maradone's stolen luxury watch from Shivsagar on the basis of information provided by Dubai Police and arrested a person named Wajid Hussain.

Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, GP Singh said that the recovered objects include items such as a jacket, track pants, toy doll, squash racquet, ipads, lighters, etc.

Wazid Hussein, a resident of the Sivasagar district of the state, was arrested from his residence based on inputs from the Dubai Police, said the state Director General of Police.

"As informed through a central agency by the Dubai Police, one Wazid Hussain had stolen a limited-edition Maradona signed Hublot watch and fled to Assam. Today morning at 4:00 am, we arrested Wazid from his residence in Sibsagar. The limited-edition watch has been recovered from him," he tweeted.

According to the police, Wazid Hussian worked as a security guard at a private company in Dubai where Maradona's belongings were stored. In August, he sought permission for coming to India as his father was unwell. Police are investigating if Wazid Hussian has any past criminal record.

"We are interrogating him, and further investigation is going on," the DGP said.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "In an act of international cooperation, the Assam Police has coordinated with Dubai Police through the Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer late Diego Maradona, and arrested one Wazid Hussein. Follow-up lawful action is being taken."
