Assam: Agriculture Department celebrates Kati Bihu in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Kati Bihu was celebrated across Lakhimpur district on Wednesday following the tradition. Praying for the wellbeing of the farmers’ community and protection of the crops, the Agriculture Department also celebrated the festival in Lakhimpur with traditional fervour. In this connection, the department, in association with the district administration, organized ceremonial programmes at different places across the district, including Gojai-Monai Kshetra of Gagaldubi under Boginadi Agricultural Circle, Kekuri Kochari Pothar under Dhakuakhana subdivision and Alengi Xatra Pothar under Narayanpur area. During the programmes, earthen lamps were lit under the holy Tulsi (Basil) plant and paddy fields.

Lakhimpur District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan took part as chief guest in the colourful ceremonial programme organized on the occasion at Gagaldubi under the management of District Agriculture Officer Bhavajit Doley. Women devotees performed Diha-Nam in the programme. Earlier, an awareness meeting among the farmers was held on various schemes being implemented by the Agriculture Department. District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan delivered an elaborate lecture in the event emphasizing the commercialization of agricultural products. He called upon the upcoming generation to come forward to accept farming as a prestigious job.

District Agriculture Officer Bhavajit Doley explained in detail about the agricultural schemes. In the programme, a number of progressive farmers of the district were given warm felicitation for their notable success in farming and agricultural items were distributed among the farmers.
