Assam: AJYCP stages protest against hydro electric power projects

The agitators from the youth organizations demanded appropriate and adequate compensation and immediate rehabilitation of all the flood-ravaged people across the State.

Nagaon: Along with rest of the State, Nagaon district body of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Friday staged a sit-in against all ongoing construction of small as well as large scale hydro electric power projects across the State, in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon.

During the stir, the agitators from the youth organizations demanded appropriate and adequate compensation and immediate rehabilitation of all the flood-ravaged people across the State. The organization also demanded to declare the flood and erosion problem of the state as a national problem. Besides, the protesters demanded to close down all those hydro-electric power projects as soon as possible too.

During the protest, the protesters shouted various slogans and also slammed the Centre for not paying heed to the hardships facing by the people of the State during this crucial time. Over 200 agitators from the youth organization, led by the district president and secretary respectively Deepmoni Bora, Pragjyotish Bonia, central executive as well as publicity secretary Prabin Chandra Das participated in the agitation programme.
