BISWANATH: Members of the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a three-hour protest in the Biswanath region of the state. The members of the organisation were protesting against several decisions of the education department of the state government.

The protesters expressed displeasure over the publication of textbooks for Mathematics and Science subject textbooks in the English language even for the Assamese Medium Schools. This decision has been taken for all students in the government schools from class six onwards. AJYCP demanded that they roll back the change immediately and provide education in these subjects in the vernacular languages.

The organisation also demanded the immediate creation of the head teacher position in the primary schools of the region along with an immediate appointment for these positions. The Biswanath Chariali unit of the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad demanded that these have caused problems for the students and need to be solved immediately.

Members of the All Assam Students Union, Assam Sankhyaloghu Sangrami Satra Parisad, Assam Jatiya Parishad and several other organisations took part in the protest. The protesters demanded immediate action from the BJP-led state government regarding the matter and threatened to increase the intensity of their protests if the demands are not met.

Along with the rest of the state, Nagaon district body of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) also staged a three-hour sit-in on Wednesday against the initiative of the State Government to teach Mathematics and Science in English medium from class VI. Over 100 protesters from the youth organization participated in the stir and demanded to withdraw this fatal decision of the State Government as early as possible. During the agitation, the participants shouted various slogans against the State Government for not appointing permanent school heads in lower primary schools across the State for over years and stated that because of this problem, the atmosphere of education in the primary level has been hampered across the state. In a press note signed by Pragjyotish Bonia and Debashish Das, the president and secretary of the district unit of the youth organization respectively, urged the State Government to ensure the fresh appointment of school heads in all lower primary schools in the state as early as possible.
