SILCHAR: From blackflags to bloodshed, the two-day Barak Valley visit by Badrauddin Ajmal was marred with a series of high voltage drama. On Saturday, just prior to Ajmal’ rally in Nilambazar, his over enthusiastic cadres had beaten district Congress general secretary Bajlul Haque Chowdhury for showing blackflag to the AIUDF chief. A bleeding Chowdhury alleged that Jakir Hussain, the AIUDF MLA from Hailakandi instigated his party cadres to beat him.

Ajmal arrived at Hailakandi on Friday only to see ‘go back’ placards and black flags by roadside. Even stones were reportedly pelted at his convoy. Later at night addressing a huge rally in Amalabazar in Lala, an angry Ajmal openly lambasted three party MLAs from Hailakandi. Ajmal said, Katlicherra MLA Sujam Uddin and his Algapur counterpart Nizami Laskar were fighting with each other like Israel and Palestine and he was caught in crossfire. “I really feel ashamed of these MLAs. How could our party seek votes from the public with these kinds of attitude?” a visibly irritated Ajmal confessed in public. He even hinted that the clash between two MLAs centred around the trading of betel nuts.

Later speaking to the mediapersons, Ajmal said, his party would definitely ally with INDIA post poll. Rahul Gandhi would be the prime minister, Ajmal predicted. He further added that the AIUDF would field candidate in Karimganj as the people were frustrated with both BJP and Congress.
