Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga met in Delhi to resolve their border dispute. They have reportedly decided to increase the fencing in the volatile Assam-Mizoram border.

The two states share a 164 km border between them. "Cordial" was the word that Zoramthanga used to describe his two-hour-long meeting with his Assam counterpart.

Zoramthanga said that they had a good meeting and they are like brothers. He also informed that they will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah together and try to bring about a long-lasting solution to this dispute.

On the contrary, Dr. Sarma denied these reports and said that they only enjoyed their dinner together.

"We enjoyed the dinner together since we are good friends. We will meet the Home Minister. Nothing discussed today," said the Assam CM.

Zoramthanga further added that he awaits for these progressive and fruitful meetings to take place in the future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were also tagged in this tweet.

According to an official, the Central Government hopes for a peaceful solution to this dispute and is working together with the Assam Government and the Mizoram Government is bringing about peace and harmony. Amit Shah is reported to be in constant touch with both the Chief Ministers.

The two states were involved in a violent border skirmish in July this year and it resulted in the death of at least five Assam police personnel and one civilian. The two sides blamed each other immediately after the incident broke out.
