Assam: Anti-Corruption Unit Nabs Education Officials in Bribery Scandals

Assam's Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption apprehends education department employees in bribery stings, exposing corruption in official ranks.

GUWAHATI: In a relentless pursuit of eradicating corruption within the government ranks, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Assam made significant strides by apprehending three employees of the education department in two separate sting operations conducted on a Friday.

The first of these operations resulted in the arrest of Syed Arisuddin Ahmed, the Assistant Superintendent of the Registration Branch at the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). This high-ranking official was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe. Syed Arisuddin Ahmed's partner in crime in this corrupt conspiracy was identified as Dina Bandhu Kalita, the Superintendent in-charge of the branch. The duo had allegedly demanded and subsequently accepted a bribe in exchange for rectifying a complainant's High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) certificate.

The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption made the announcement of these successful traps on their official platform, revealing, "Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped Syed Arisuddin Ahmed, Asstt. Supdt, Regd. Branch, SEBA, New Guwahati red-handed after he accepted a bribe in conspiracy with Dina Bandhu Kalita, I/C Supdt., for rectifying the complainant's HSLC certificate."

In the same operation, Dina Bandhu Kalita, the In-charge Superintendent of the Registration Branch at SEBA, was also apprehended for his role in demanding and accepting bribes through his assistant, Syed Arisuddin Ahmed, further underscoring the extent of corruption within the department.

In the second operation of the day, the Block Elementary Education Officer in Biswanath's Gohpur, Hari Prasad Das, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe. Das had allegedly demanded a bribe from a teacher who sought to regularize their service within the education system.

The anti-corruption unit shared their findings on platform X, stating, "2nd trap of the day! @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped Hari Prasad Das, Block Elementary Education Officer, Gohpur, Dist. Biswanath red-handed after he accepted a bribe in his office from the complainant, a teacher, for regularizing his service."

These recent arrests shine a spotlight on the persistent issue of corruption within government offices and departments. Assam's Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption remains committed to its mission of upholding transparency and accountability, sending a strong message that corrupt officials will not escape the long arm of the law.
