Guwahati: On Saturday, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta shared that the process of filling up the vacancies of 9,000 posts have been started by the government.

The Health Minister also added that more than 1,900 vacancies have been filled in the Health Department of Assam since the government assumed charge in April.

While being interviewed on the sidelines of the programme, Keshab Mahanta said, "Since our government came to power, we have given appointments to 1,941 people in the Health Department, ranging from nurses to medical staff to non-technical staff."

At a function in Guwahati, a total of 70 medical faculties (medical/non-medical) of medical colleges and government dental colleges of Assam were given appointment letters by the Health Minister.

Advertisements of the 9,000 vacancies in the Health Department of Assam will soon be released by the government within this month, Mahanta said.

On Friday, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta had instructed all government employees to take the Covid-19 vaccine within this week, if not taken yet. He also said that from September 6, the heads of offices would have to display boards or plaques with – we are all vaccinated – written on them, in front of their respective offices.

Talking to The Sentinel, Mahanta said, "Since we have relaxed the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to a large extent, we want the offices in the state to work in full swing from Monday. Every official will have to take the vaccine and attend the office."

He added, "We have instructed the heads of all offices to make arrangements for vaccination within this week if any employees under them have not yet taken vaccines. From Monday, the heads of offices will have to display boards or plaques with – we are all vaccinated – written on them, in front of their offices."
