GUWAHATI: In a significant move, the government of Assam has recently approved a groundbreaking decision to reserve 5% of seats in medical and engineering colleges specifically for students who have completed their education from state-run schools. The announcement came following a state cabinet meeting held on Monday night.

To qualify for this unique opportunity, students must have pursued their studies from Class 7 through Class 12 within the state government school system. However, there's a crucial caveat: students who have attended CBSE-affiliated schools in Assam will not be eligible for this reservation. The scheme is exclusively designed for those who have completed their education in schools affiliated with state boards.

Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighted that this initiative aims to incentivize students to enroll in and complete their education in state government schools, promoting their growth and development within the state's educational system.

Additionally, the state cabinet unveiled another promising initiative. This year, girl students who have achieved a remarkable 60% or more in their Class 12 examinations and boy students who have secured an impressive 75% or higher will receive scooters as a reward for their academic excellence. The distribution of these scooters is scheduled for November this year, according to Chief Minister Sarma.

This approach by the Assam government not only seeks to empower and reward high-achieving students but also strives to bolster the state's government school system. The 5% seat reservation in prestigious medical and engineering colleges provides a significant incentive for students to stay within the state's educational framework, ultimately contributing to Assam's growth and development.

These initiatives send a strong message of support to students, emphasizing the value of education while also recognizing and celebrating their academic achievements. As Assam continues to invest in its education sector, it aims to nurture a generation of skilled and motivated individuals ready to make meaningful contributions to the state's progress and prosperity.
