Assam: Assam Police Arrests Five in Connection to FICN

Among those arrested is a woman as well as two people who are working as journalists.

BISWANATH: Five people including one woman have been arrested by a police team during an operation against Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

A team from Biswanath Police carried out an operation against people involved in the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes. The operation was carried out on Friday morning and the team was able to arrest five people including a gang who used to manufacture equipment for producing fake currency. Among those arrested is a woman as well as two people who are working as journalists.

According to sources, a person was coming from Bongalmara in Lakhimpur to Guwahati last night aboard a bus with a machine. After receiving information, a team from the Biswanth Police stopped the vehicle and seized the machine which was supposedly used to print the fake currency notes. The person was also arrested by the team.

Based on the information provided by the accused, the police team was able to stop another vehicle. The Maruti WagonR bearing registration number AS 01 MC 7309, which was following the bus was stopped by the police team and arrested four people aboard the vehicle, including a woman. The identities of the arrested people revealed by the police team are Fuljar Hussain and Minara Begum from Bihpuria, Ajay Biswakarma from Silapathar and Ajit Gogoi and Babul Hussain from Dispur. Necessary legal action has been initiated against those arrested.

Previously, in an operation targeting counterfeit Indian currency, local police in Assam's Nagaon have detained a man, his wife, and two other individuals, according to officials. Preliminary reports originating from Nagaon indicate that the incident occurred in Simaluguri village near Kampur, falling within the jurisdiction of Kachua Police Station. Upon receiving information about a suspected counterfeit currency printing and distribution operation in the area, law enforcement conducted a raid, resulting in the detention of the couple and two other suspects.
