LAKHIMPUR: In a successful operation against counterfeit currency or Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), Assam Police was able to recover a large consignment of such notes from a businessman in the state.
Lakhimpur police conducted an operation in the Bangalmara locality of the district. This raid led to the seizure of Fake Indian Currency Notes worth over Rs 20 lakh. A businessman was arrested in connection to this recovered consignment.
The police team raided the residence of one Imdadul Islam, in Ahmedpur Number 1 locality of Bangamara and recovered the fake currency concealed in a water tank at his accommodation. They also raided the residences of Gulzar Hussain, Riyazul Islam and Faizul Islam during the operation, but failed to apprehend them. One Shahjahan Ali from the Sonapur Number 2 village was also arrested by the police team.
Superintendent of Police, Anand Mishra mentioned that Imdadul Islam, Gulzar Hussain, Riyazul Islam and Faizul Islam were part of a massive Fake Indian Currency Notes syndicate and were involved in supplying such materials to several places including Guwahati. He also added that these operations will continue as the police is determined to bring an end to such illegal businesses.
Previously, Jorabat Police conducted a raid based on input regarding fake Indian currency notes (FICN) at 14th Mile in the Jorabat area. In connection with that, two people identified as Md Abdul Kadir (32) and Samir Uddin (35) both from North Lakhimpur were arrested. According to sources, the police recovered FICN, which had a face value of Rs 2 lakh with Rs 500 denomination, and three mobile phones.
After the successful arrest of the two accused in the Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) racket, a team of East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) of Jorabat Outpost under Basistha Police Station arrested one more thug in the racket. The third accused is identified as Robi Ali of Sonapur.
