TINSUKIA: Altogether 32 candidates are in fray in Tinsukia district fragmented into 5 LACs- 122 Tinsukia, 123 Digboi, 124 Margherita, 125 Doomdooma and 126 Sadiya -of which 122 Tinsukia, 123 Digboi and 125 Doomdooma fall under Tinsukia Election District. The election will be held during the first phase in which 8,49,626 voters will exercise their franchise on March 27.
In 122 Tinsukia LAC, the number of voters is 1,73,446 with 87,139 males and 86,285 females, including 12 third gender voters. The 10 candidates who submitted the nomination papers for 122 Tinsukia LAC are-Sanjay Kishan (BJP), Rabin Chandra Kachari (NCP), Probin Kumar Hazarika (Rastriya Lok Samata Party), Budhinath Prajapati (Political Justice Party), Hira Devi Choudhury (RJD), Shamsher Singh (Assam Jatiya Parishad), Swapan Paul (Bharatiya Gana Parishad), Subhashis Bhattacharjee (Ind), Alok Roy (Janata Dal-U), and Chintu Baruah (Lok Jan Shakti Party). The 123 Digboi LAC has a total of 1,40,132 voters comprising of 69,298 males and 70,825 females, besides 9 third gender voters. The three contestants are Suren Phukan (BJP), Shibnath Chetia (INC), and Prahlad Nayak (AJP).
The 124 Margherita LAC has a total of 1,95,861 voters of which 99,104 are males and 96,757 are females. After final scrutiny, six candidates are now locked in poll battle and they are-Bhaskar Sharma (BJP), Manoranjan Borgohain (INC), Sanjay Kumar Deb (AJP), Ignatius Ekka (Ind), Bhogeswar Shyam (Ind) and Rantu Sonowal (Ind).
The 125 Doomdooma LAC has a total of 1,52,470 voters of which 75,507 are males and 76,956 are females, besides seven voters from the third gender. The seven contesting candidates are Durga Bhumij (INC), Rupesh Gowala (BJP), Suresh Bhumij (AJP), Rajesh Kishan (Political Justice Party), Lakheswar Moran (Ind), Debojit Moran (Ind) and Kanak Chetia (Ind).
In 126 Sadiya LAC that comprises both north and south bank of River Brahmaputra, there are 1,87,717 voters with 95,239 males and 92,475 females while three voters belong to the third gender. After final scrutiny and withdrawal, six candidates are in the fray. They are Jagadish Bhuyan (AJP), Bolin Chetia (BJP), Lakhin Chandra Chetia (INC), Tikendra Thapa (Voters Party International), Lalit Deori Bharali (Ind) and Rijumoni Gogoi (Ind). Under Tinsukia Election District, the 122 Tinsukia LAC has 20 All Women Polling Stations, the corresponding figures for 123 Digboi and 125 Doomdooma are 14 and 6 respectively.
