GUWAHATI: On Wednesday, the Assam Legislative Assembly enacted three pieces of legislation pertaining to the education department during the present budget session. Ranoj Pegu, the education minister, provided this information.
The bills include the following:
The Assam Elementary and Secondary School Teachers' (Regulation of Posting and Transfer) (Amendment) Bill, 2023
The Assam College Employees (Provincialisation) (Amendment) Bill, 2023
The Assam Science and Technology University (Amendment) Bill, 2023
Pegu presented the three pieces of legislation pertaining to the department of education before the House. The aforementioned legislation was approved on the thirteenth day of the Assam Legislative Assembly's ongoing budget session.
Following a contentious discussion between the government and opposition parties about the implementation of the Assam Accord, Congress MLAs—including opposition leader Debabrata Saikia—staged a walkout earlier today.
On the thirteenth day of the Assam Assembly session, Minister for the Implementation of the Assam Accord Atul Bora countered a question raised by Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia over the implementation of the Assam Accord.
“What actions did the Congress government take in the past? This is a query that Congress should put to Rajiv Bhawan in Delhi”, Bora remarked. The opposition leaders made the decision to walkout in response to Bora's comments regarding the Assam Accord.
According to sources on Wednesday, the Assam administration informed that the state will no longer organise the Middle English (M.E.) Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) examination. The state's education department reportedly informed the Gauhati High Court that the ME TET exam would no longer be held in the state. The Court hasn't, however, made any decisions or issued any orders regarding the matter.
According to Ranoj Pegu, the minister of education for Assam, since there are vast number of people who passed TET as compared to the available vacancies, the decision has been taken.
