Assam: ATTSA Felicitates Meritorious Students

Several educationalists and key members of the organisation also attended this event.

DOOMDOOMA: The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) organised a special event to felicitate the students of the community who performed well in the examinations. Over 300 students were felicitated in this event and the Minister of Tea Tribes Welfare & Labour Welfare, Sanjoy Kishan also attended the event.

This felicitation event was organised in the auditorium of Doomdooma by the Tinsukia District Committee of the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association with support from the Doomdooma unit. The students belonging to the community who secured 60% or above in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination and the Higher Secondary Examination were felicitated in this event.

The students were presented with one phulam gamocha, a file and a certificate by the organisation. Several educationalists and key members of the organisation also attended this event. Speaking on the occasion, minister Sanjoy Kishan mentioned the importance of higher education and asked the students to pursue the same. He also asked them to work hard towards the betterment of the society, state and country.

In the last month, Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) staged a protest demanding land rights for the tea tribes community of the state. The student body carried out the protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office of the former district of the state on Monday The two-hour-long protest was called by the central leadership of the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association. Members of the organisation from the Gohpur, Bihali and Biswanath units took part in this protest.

The protesters presented a memorandum to the authorities demanding proper actions in regard to the demands of the people belonging to the tea tribe communities. The protesters mentioned that the tea tribes form an essential part of the greater Assamese community and have been instrumental in developing the economy of the state by contributing towards the tea sector, which is one of the biggest sources of revenue for the state.
