Assam: Authorities Apprehend Four for Hog Deer Killing in Kaziranga National Park

GUWAHATI: In a recent incident at Kaziranga National Park in Assam, four individuals were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the killing of a hog deer. The incident occurred on January 2 near No. 1 Koilakhat village in Bokakhat, Golaghat district, where the lifeless body of a hog deer was discovered.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a rapid response team was formed, comprising the Bokakhat Range Officer, an Investigating Officer, and 10 armed personnel. The team swiftly reached the spot to investigate the matter. Utilizing the expertise of the departmental sniffer dog, Leon, authorities successfully traced the escape path of the poachers.

During the pursuit, various items of interest were recovered along the trail, including an iron spear believed to be the murder weapon, a bamboo stick, and a distinctive grey-colored cap. The evidence helped strengthen the case against the suspected poacher. Despite attempting to flee towards Diflu Tea Estate, the individual was eventually apprehended.

Further interrogation of the captured suspect led to the revelation of his direct involvement in the hog deer poaching incident, along with the disclosure of the identities of his accomplices. Subsequently, on the following day, three additional suspects implicated in the killing of the hog deer were successfully apprehended.

This rapid and decisive action by the authorities at Kaziranga National Park underscores their unwavering commitment to combat illegal wildlife activities. The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the local community play a crucial role in safeguarding the precious fauna and upholding the sanctity of protected areas like Kaziranga National Park.
