LAKHIMPUR: A district-level awareness meeting on ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign and ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ was organized in Lakhimpur on Monday in a befitting manner. The event was held in the auditorium of the North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) which began with a presentation made by Junuma Koch.

Attending the event, Lakhimpur District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan explained in details about the ‘Meri Mati, Mera Desh’ campaign and ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’. “On August 9, 2023, the nationwide Meri Mati Mera Desh campaign was launched as a tribute to the valiant individuals who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The campaign has encompassed events at the village and block levels, organized by local urban bodies, state, and national entities. The initiative aims to honour the nation’s heroes through various programmes held across the country. The campaign was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a broadcast of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. Its primary objective is to pay tribute to the courageous freedom fighters and heroes who selflessly gave their lives for the nation’s cause,” the District Commissioner said.

Notably, to establish an ‘Amrit Vatika’ in Delhi, an ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ will be conducted, involving the collection of soil from every corner of the country in 7500 urns (pitchers). This ‘Amrit Vatika’ will serve as a symbol of the commitment towards achieving the goal of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.

As per schedule, from September 20 to October 1, every household in every village or ward of the Lakhimpur district and other parts of the State will give a fistful of soil or a fistful of rice (for those who have no land of their own) to the teams of people formed by the deputy commissioners. On October 2, the teams will bring the collected soil to their respective Gaon Panchayat (GP) offices or the offices of civic bodies. At the GP and civic body offices, the teams will mix the collected soil and send it to the development blocks on October 8 and 15 in 20 kalash (pitchers). The excess soil will be used for any auspicious works in the localities, like foundation stone laying, constructing temples, namghars, etc. The block offices will mix the soil collected from each GP and ward and pack it into two pitchers, leaving excess soil for use in auspicious works at the block level. On October 25, each block office in the State will send two pitchers filled with soil to the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, where the officials of the State Government will mix the soil and keep it in two sets of pitchers (2X270). On October 27, the State Government will send one of the two sets of pitchers (270) to New Delhi by the Rajdhani Express, and on October 28, they will keep the pitchers at Assam House in New Delhi for their use in the Amrit Udyan under construction. The State Government will take the 270 pitchers to be left in Assam to Gohpur on December 22 for use at the proposed Kanaklata Baruah University.

The Panchayat-level events regarding Amrit Kalash Yatra at all Gaon Panchayats in Lakhimpur district will be held from September 20. The awareness meeting was also attended by Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, Bihpuria MLA Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, representative of Dhakuakhana MLA, Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Borgohain, and others.
