Assam: Awareness meeting on snake bite, its treatment protocol held

DEMOW: As part of the International Snake Bite Awareness Day 2023 on Tuesday, the District Surveillance Unit, IDSP, Sivasagar organized an awareness meeting at Khemka Matri Sadan, Dolmukh Chariali, Sivasagar.

The meeting was conducted by District Surveillance Officer Dr Gayatri Senapati, along with other officials of the District Surveillance Unit, District Media Expert and other medical persons. In the meeting, Dr Gayatri Senapati elaborately described the importance of awareness of snake bites, their treatment protocol, how a person should be given first aid at home before taking him to the hospital etc. She gave emphasis on taking a snake-bite victim to the government hospital and other health institutions like Civil Hospital, Demow Model Hospital, Amguri CHC, and Ligirapukhuri SDCH where anit-snake venom is available.

Dr Senapati clarified various superstitious beliefs about snake bites and said, “People must not encourage superstition, rather they should approach it in a scientific way.”

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the District Media Expert, NHM, Sivasagar.
