Assam: Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi commemorated

LAKHIMPUR: In order to commemorate the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, who is a politician with unique qualities and the architect of modern Assam, ‘Lok Kalyan Divas’ was observed in Lakhimpur district on Saturday along with the rest of the State.

On this occasion, a commemorative programme was organized in the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office, the agenda of which began with the presentation of the ‘Asom Sangeet’. The event was chaired by District Commissioner in charge-cum-District Development Commissioner Utpal Borah. In his lecture, the District Commissioner in charge threw light on the life, works and ideology of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi and paid tribute to him. In connection, he also highlighted the pledge of the administrative officers and employees with regard to discharging of their duties and responsibilities by enriching their attitude with the ideology of dedication and sacrifice for the benefits of the public. In this regard, he cordially called upon the officers and employees of Lakhimpur district administration to their level best. He further congratulated Lakhimpur District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan and Executive Officer of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board Casio Karan Pegu for bagging the “Karmashree-The Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration”, for the year 2022-23.

They have achieved the honour for their success in effective implementation of a unique and aspiring project named, “Rehabilitation of Solid Waste at North Lakhimpur Municipal Board. Utpal Borah said that the achievement by the duo had made the district proud.

In the programme, the district level ‘Lok Sewa Puraskar’ instituted by the Government of Assam on the occasion of the Lok Kalyan Diwas to honour the government employees diligently following the ideology of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, was conferred on the winner of the Lakhimpur district. This year, the district level award was grabbed by Arun Borah, Senior Assistant of the Lakhimpur District SP Office, who was honoured in the programme with a gamosa, cash Rs. 25,000 and a citation. In the programme, ADC Sanjib Doloi and Inspector of Schools Hem Kanta Saikia delivered lecture on works and ideology of Gopinath Bordoloi. On the other hand, journalist Ranjit Kakati delivered lecture on how the noble leader, by his political efficiency, saved Assam from the controversial ‘Grouping Plan’ and suggested to hold different programmes under the auspices of the district administration to take his ideology to the upcoming generations. The event was attended by officers and employees of the district administration, departmental heads, members from various social organizations.
