Assam: Biswanath Police Recovers Pistol Along With Ammunition

A total of five 0.22-inch rounds were also recovered during this operation.

BISWANATH: Working based on specific information, Biswanath Police was able to recover a pistol that was being hidden in a banana plantation in the district. Following this development, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated.

IBI Biswanath reportedly received inputs of a firearm being hidden in a particular location. Based on this information, an operation was initiated under the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Biswanath, IBI Biswanath and the officer in charge of the Biswanath Police Station. A 0.22 caliber pistol along with its magazine was recovered. A total of five 0.22-inch rounds were also recovered during this operation.

It was informed by the police that the firearm was found concealed under a dry banana tree in a banana garden located inside line number 23 of the Dhuli Tea Estate. Notably, this locality comes under the jurisdiction of the Balichang Police Outpost under the Biswanath Chariali Police Station. An investigation is underway regarding this development with respect to the General Diary Entry number 08 dated 17th October 2023 of the Biswanath Chariali Police Station.

On the same day, following a successful operation, police were able to recover the pistol used by Saurav Goena to shoot Anjan Nath dead from the Bharalu River in Guwahati city. A team from the Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) mounted an operation to recover the pistol used by Saurav Goenka. The police team took Saurav Goenka along on this search operation and was finally able to recover the same from the river. The police team also found the magazine used by the shooters along with the pistol during this operation.

Saurav Goenka, with the help of Gitashree Sinha, had shot dead Anjan Nath near the Ganesh Mandir in Khanapara in a well-planned plot. The police arrested seven people, including the parents and sister of Gitashree Sinha and two other accomplices, for committing and collaborating in this murder.
