MORIGAON: A boat carrying seven people capsized in the Brahmaputra in the Morigaon region of Assam on Friday, killing a woman and her two young children, according to a police officer.
The victims' boat capsized at Hamu Chapori in the Laharighat region of the district after colliding with another engine-driven boat.
"The collision caused all of the country boat's passengers to fall into the river. While four others were able to swim to safety, three of them perished in the water "the policeman stated.
Bimla Khatun, her son Jinnahtul Islam, and her daughter Istara Khatun have been named as the victims.
Authorities in the district were able to find their remains with the assistance of locals, the officer continued.
Earlier in September, a boat carrying about 29 people, including a Circle Officer named Sanju Das, Mondal, an ASDMA Field Officer, and local villagers returning from a field verification, struck a post in the river, according to officials.
Many individuals were saved by the local community and the SDRF, but about 10 people, including the circle officer, are unaccounted for.
Recently in another incident, A woman and four children who were drowning in the Brahmaputra river in the border region of Assam were saved by the Border Security Force (BSF). In the event, a boat carrying five persons sank in the Brahmaputra river in Assam's Dhubri district.
BSF has provided this information. According to the BSF, jawans witnessed several persons drowning alongside a boat at the junction of the Brahmaputra and Gangadhar rivers in Takkmari village of Dhubri district close to the India-Bangladesh border in Assam.
After that, BSF jawans rushed to the river's edge and saved a woman who was drowning and four children. The information indicates that the boat's overturning in the river was the cause of this catastrophe.
First assistance was provided immediately by BSF jawans, who also saved everyone's life. Women's and children's health is reportedly stable right now.
The report indicates that at the exact moment this catastrophe occurred, everyone was crossing the river to travel between villages. The 19th BSF battalion handled every aspect of this rescue operation.
