KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Friday staged a protest within the premises of Bodoland University in Kokrajhar, demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor Dr. Laishram Ladu Singh.

The ABSU's call for Dr. Singh's removal comes in the wake of his arrest on corruption charges by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption and the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell.

During the demonstration, the protesting students also criticized the members of the inquiry committee appointed by the Governor of Assam. The committee includes Dr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury, Secretariat Adviser at the Governor's House; the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam Higher Education Department; Professor S.K. Dev from the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Guwahati; and Dr. B.B. Misra, the Finance Officer at Tezpur University.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with the inquiry committee's investigation process, the ABSU called for the immediate removal of Dr. L. Ladu Singh from the position of Vice Chancellor.

Additionally, it's worth noting that a case involving the embezzlement of a significant sum of money from the university was registered against the vice chancellor on May 30th of the previous year. Subsequently, the CM Vigilance Cell seized three files from the university's documents. Vice-Chancellor Dr. L. Ladu Singh secured bail following his arrest.

In parallel, the ABSU has sought the intervention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding this incident. The student body has announced plans for a major protest on October 11th, further intensifying their efforts to address the matter.

Earlier on Monday, this week, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) burnt the effigies of the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU), Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh in front of Bodoland University (BU) as a mark of continuing protest against him for his alleged corruption charges and monopolistic approach in BU administration. The ABSU has been demanding immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of BU, Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh, who was accused of corruption by the CM’s Vigilance Cell and Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, and appointment of a new VC in the varsity.
