Assam: Bomb Scare In Digboi; Explosive Like Devices Found

Digboi: A device which was suspected to be a live bomb was detected at Bhimpathar Tiniali near Digboi-Pengri road on the morning of April 30 and a sense of panic followed after this incident came to light in the oil town of Digboi.

According to reports, a local youth found a suspicious bag, after which he immediately informed the Digboi police around 6 am in the morning.

A team of bomb disposal officers have been summoned to the site and the process of diffusing the bomb has begun.

Following this incident, tight security has been put in place in and around Digboi Township.

Various angles pertaining to this case are now being investigated by the police and the Indian Army. It includes a possible linkage between this episode and the militant outfits operating in the state.

Meanwhile, a gang of four members had been arrested in relation to the seizure of a dozen crude bombs near a railway track at Kadavu station located in Thiruvanthapuram of Kerala.

The police had informed that two of the four arrested persons had been identified as the residents of Assam.

On Wednesday 28 April, the railway police team recovered at least 12 country-made explosive devices while looking for a gang of 5 men hiding in between bushes close to the railway track.

The officials successfully seized the explosives hidden amid the bushes on the night of April 27 but at that time the group of men managed to flee after they came to know that police were approaching them.

However, the next day, police arrested the four men identified as 43 years old Sulfi, 45-year-old Santosh, 18 years old Shahjahan and 30 years old Rahman.

Police informed that Shahjahan and Rahman had been identified as natives of the northeastern state of Assam.

All four had been charged under the Explosives Act and remanded to judicial custody barring the first accused person who is still on the run.
