Assam: Book donation programme held in Gargaon College

SIVASAGAR: Continuing with its effort of imparting quality education and furthering the education of the underprivileged, Gargaon College organised a book donation programme on Wednesday. On this occasion, Dr Ranjana Gogoi, former head of the department of Statistics of Gargaon College donated a prized collection of books along with an almirah for storing the books.

Extending sincere gratitude to Dr Ranjana Gogoi for her benevolence, eminent academician, columnist and Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta spoke of the importance of book bank for supporting and furthering the education of economically backward students. He further spoke on the initiative of book donation undertaken during his tenure, under which several former faculty members, eminent academicians and litterateurs have made contribution of valuable books to the college library. He also appreciated the efforts of Dr Pankaj Kumar Nath, Librarian of the college towards the maintenance and upgrade of the college library.

Dr Ranjana Gogoi, in her address, described the collection of books donated by her as a repository of books from diverse disciplines ranging from encyclopedias, childrens story books, books on basic science, journals, novels, among others, collected, read and preserved from time to time by her family. The childrens books, she opined, shall be beneficial for children of the locality as well as that of the employees. She further expressed hope that the donated books shall be properly maintained by the staff of the library and utilized by the student fraternity for their benefit.

Dr Pankaj Kumar Nath, librarian of the college expressed gratitude to Dr Ranjana Gogoi for her generosity and expressed his hope that the books gifted by Dr Gogoi shall positively enhance the resourcefulness of the library. He further said that a children’s section shall be soon opened in the library. The book donation programme moderated by Dr Pankaj Kumar Nath was attended by the teaching and non teaching staff of the college.
