Assam; Book lovers throng 6th North Lakhimpur College Book Fair

The 6th North Lakhimpur College Book Fair is underway since October 9. A large number of readers have thronged the book fair venue in the college campus in search for their favourite books.

LAKHIMPUR: The 6th North Lakhimpur College Book Fair is underway since October 9. A large number of readers have thronged the book fair venue in the college campus in search for their favourite books. Currently, the book fair has turned into a congregation of readers and writers with the reverberation of discussions on different literary, cultural subjects, environmental issues etc.

The book fair was inaugurated by Dr Anjan Kumar Oja, a noted literary critic of the State cum-retired Principal of the Soyduwar College. In his lecture, Dr Oja appreciated North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) for organizing the book fair with its own endeavour every year without any break. “

North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) has set an example for others by organizing a book fair every year with its own endeavour as part of its contribution to the intellectual movement in the State,” Dr Oja added. Attending the inaugural session as distinguished guest, researcher-cum-critic Bornali Kataki Oja delivered a lecture on the importance of studying books. During the first three days of the book fair, Departments of Education, Physics and Geography of the college conducted three separate symposia.

On the first day, the girls’ hostel of the college organized a literary programme by dedicating it to Jnanpeeth awardee literary figure Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami. On the second day, the students of the Lakhimpur Girls’ College organized a colourful cultural programme. On Wednesday evening, another cultural programme was organized by the students of the college and the programme was dedicated to Sahitya Akademi winner literary figure Saurabh Kumar Chaliha.

On the same day, popular fiction writers Juri Borah Borgohain and Lakhinandan Borgohain took part in a lecture event. The event began with the welcome address by Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, wherein Juri Borah Borgohain delivered lecture on ‘My journey as a fiction writer’. She also took part in an interactive session with the readers. On the other hand, Lakhinandan Borgohain delivered an attractive lecture on ‘The Gal-Bastra of Assam’.

In connection with the book fair, inter-college level quiz contest, photography contest have already been organized. On behalf of the organizing committee, Dr Arabinda Rajkhowa said that a quiz contest and a speech competition among the secondary level students would be held on Thursday.

“More books of different categories, in comparison to the previous years, have been made available in the book fair this year. The response from the readers is also overwhelming,” Dr Rajkhowa added. The book fair will conclude on October 16.
