Assam: Brown Sugar Confiscated In Howly, 1 Nabbed

GUWAHATI: With rapid efforts towards eradicating the issue of drugs in the state, Assam police has once again nabbed a culprit along with brown sugar on 12th of January, Thursday. 

 A team of Assam police force confiscated brown sugar weighing 232.79 grams. An alleged drug peddler also got arrested in the process. The episode took place in Howly in Assam's Barpeta district. The peddler has been identified as Shariful Islam. 

The cops further recovered a two mobile phones from his possession and an amount of Rs 7380 cash. 

The Barpeta police tweeted from their official handle stating that during an operation under #warondrugs , a team of Howly PS nabbed a drug peddler and seized 232.79 grams of brown sugar. As per the cops, the drug was packed in six soup cases. 

The accused is a resident of Jaen Bazar. Recently, the state police detained two individuals in connection with smuggling drugs in Assam's Karbi Anglong district. The episode took place on 8th January, and police confiscated heroine worth Rs 16 crore from their possession. 

The drugs were seized in 286 soup cases. Police intercepted the vehicle during a joint operation in Dilai Tiniali area. The criminals has been identified as Golap Khandakar and Sahanur Mir. They were both residents of Barpeta. 

Several war on drugs campaigns has been released by the concerned authorities to eliminate the issue. Cases of drug seizure are reported from several stated and districts everyday. With continuous effort by the police authorities, several smugglers got nabbed and are under the custody of the law.

Guwahati police in the year 2022, recovered drugs worth Rs 407 crore. In 2021, the state police department seized over Rs 548.53 crore drugs in total. Nonetheless, Assam continues its aggressive war on drugs moto to diminish all the illegal smuggling activities in the state.
