GUWAHATI: The establishment of 620 MW of renewable energy projects under a joint venture between the Assam Power Generation Corporation (APGCL) and Oil India has received preliminary permission from the Assam Cabinet.

Three agricultural photovoltaic projects totaling 250 MW are among the projects.

These are the seven green projects:

• The 100 MW Tezpur agrivoltaic project and the 70 MW Sonbeel floating solar project

• 50 MW Lower Kopili agrivoltaic project; • 60 MW Chandrapur solar project; • 100 MW Batadrava agrivoltaic project; • 40 MW Golaghat floating solar project

Throughout the building and operation phases of these projects, 1,733 job opportunities are anticipated to be created. The proposed agrivoltaic projects will also support 1,250 farmer families and about 125 small producer associations.

The plan to establish a 70 MW solar project at Khudigaon under the Bilaspara Revenue Circle in the Dhubri district was also accepted by the state cabinet. The Assam Electricity Distribution Company would be the buyer of the electricity (APDCL).

The project will follow a build-own-operate model of development. For a 1 GW grid-connected solar project in the Karbi Anglong district, APDCL issued a request for proposals in November last year.

The Asian Development Bank will provide funding for the project's development via the "Mukhya Mantri Sauro Shakti Prokolpo" program. An earlier memorandum of agreement between SJVN Green Energy and APDCL called for an investment of Rs 60 billion to create 1,000 megawatts of floating solar installations.

The projects are anticipated to produce 2,192 million units (MU) of energy in their first year of operation and scale up to 50,425 MU of total energy production over the course of the following 25 years.

A 90-MW solar plant in Assam, the biggest in the state, was also officially commissioned last year, according to an announcement made by Azure Power. Phases of the project, which was spread across the four districts of Udalguri, Boko, Nagaon, and Cachar, were launched.

The initiative had been launched by Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam.
